Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient internal Chinese martial art that is practiced for self-defense and health. Tai Chi Chuan literally means the martial art (Chuan) that harmonizes yin and yang (Tai Chi).

To the external observer Tai Chi Chuan looks like a slow-motion choreographed dance, with a series of postures each flowing into the next.  Tai Chi Chuan is world-renowned for its health enhancing and life extending benefits. It has proven effects on pulmonary function, cardiovascular health (especially blood pressure), and balance. In addition, every posture and movement in the sequential Tai Chi Chuan “form” has a self-defense application.

 

Correctly taught, its' low impact, slow motion movements, coordinated with smooth patterns of breathing, gently massage the joints, organs and tissues, relieving pain and stress and correcting many misalignments and imbalances. Correctly understood, the practitioner learns to balance the physical and spiritual dimensions of yin and yang in every aspect and in every situation of life.
